Company Description
Workstead is an award-winning, multidisciplinary design firm founded in 2009. With studios in Brooklyn, New York and Charleston, South Carolina, the firm is known for creating highly considered projects defined by cohesive vision and meticulous attention to detail.
The Brooklyn studio focuses on interior and building design, while the Charleston studio specializes in lighting. Across both, Workstead’s process is grounded in discipline and collaboration—producing work that is timeless, material-driven, and rooted in a dialogue between historic precedent and contemporary expression.
Role Description
We are seeking a full time Project Designer to join us in our Brooklyn studio.
This role is for a designer who is deeply engaged in the act of making—someone who moves fluidly between concept and execution, and who finds equal satisfaction in big ideas and precise detailing. The Project Designer is a core contributor to the studio’s work, helping to shape projects from initial vision through final realization.
You will work across a range of project types and scales, developing design concepts, refining spatial and material strategies, and carrying ideas through documentation and construction. This role requires both independence and collaboration: the ability to take ownership of complex scopes while contributing to a shared studio dialogue.
The ideal candidate brings a strong point of view, a disciplined approach to process, and a sensitivity to proportion, material, and light. They are curious, rigorous, and committed to producing work of lasting quality.
