Title: Senior Technical Specialist – Mechanical
Location: Boulder, CO
Duration: 12 Months (Potential extension up to 18 months)
Schedule: Full‑time, On‑site, M–F
Pay: $62/hr. on W2
About the Role
The Technical Specialist Senior – Mechanical will support the engineering team by reviewing, adjusting, and releasing mechanical CAD drawings and related documentation. This role focuses heavily on CAD work, engineering drawing interpretation, configuration management, and supporting mechanical design workflows. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, contribute to drawing maturity, and ensure accuracy and compliance throughout the design release process.
What You’ll Do
- Review, update, and finalize mechanical engineering drawings, including metal piece parts and sheet‑metal assemblies.
- Use 3D mechanical CAD tools (SolidWorks required) to perform detail design updates and ensure compliance with engineering intent.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles in accordance with ASME standards (ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, ASME Y14.3).
- Release and maintain design documentation including drawings, product structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and 3D fabrication files within Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
- Prepare and submit Engineering Orders (EOs), along with required revisions or configuration updates.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support design reviews, customer reviews, and production planning activities.
- Participate in hardware receiving, integration, testing, and certification as needed.
- Maintain consistent and reliable on‑site attendance and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support mechanical engineering workflow and documentation needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and 6+ years of experience working with mechanical engineering drawings
- OR
- A two‑year technical degree and 2+ years of related experience.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for modeling and drafting.
- Experience working with GD&T and mechanical drawing standards.
- Experience using configuration management tools for document release.
- Ability to interpret and adjust technical documentation, drawings, and assembly structures.
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to prioritize assignments from multiple sources.
- Strong communication skills for in‑person and virtual collaboration.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self‑starter with strong follow‑through and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 3D printing and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Experience supporting hardware integration, test, or certification activities.
Work Environment
- Primarily office‑based (approx. 96%), with occasional shop floor support (approx. 4%).
- May occasionally work near production areas requiring protective equipment.
- May require short on‑site travel between local facilities.
Essential Functions
- Ability to remain on-site full‑time.
- Ability to lift and move materials as required in engineering or shop support scenarios.
