Job Overview:
The Assistant Buyer supports the Buying team in managing a strategic, guest-focused product assortment across onboard retail shops. This role involves vendor communication, purchase order coordination, sales analysis, and operational support to help deliver a world-class shopping experience to cruise guests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in product selection and procurement across categories such as beauty, apparel, handbags and accessories, liquor, jewelry, souvenirs, and travel essentials
- Monitor inventory levels, sales trends, and guest preferences to inform buying decisions and reorders
- Coordinate purchase orders, shipment schedules, and inventory distribution across cruise ships
- Maintain accurate product data, pricing, and tracking in internal systems
- Communicate with suppliers and logistics teams to resolve order discrepancies and ensure timely delivery
- Analyze sales reports and provide insights on product performance and assortment opportunities
- Support seasonal assortment planning, promotional activity, and visual merchandising coordination
- Collaborate with onboard retail teams and cross-functional departments to ensure smooth execution of initiatives
- Participate in vendor meetings, product walkthroughs, and occasional ship visits or trade shows (as required)
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Hospitality, or related field
- 2-4 years’ experience in a retail buying or merchandising role (cruise/travel retail a plus)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and retail systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with international partners
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in cruise guest behavior, global retail trends, and product innovation
