Job Title: Designer – Baby Division
Position Overview
The Designer will play a key role in creating compelling baby and toddler apparel collections under the Baby division. This role works closely with the Senior Director of Merchandising and collaborates with a small, agile internal design team supported by a network of freelance designers (graphic, print, technical design, and apparel designers).
The ideal candidate is highly creative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across multiple product categories and retailer-specific aesthetics.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Product Development
- Create concept boards, seasonal trend stories, and color palettes tailored to the newborn, infant, and toddler markets.
- Design original all-over prints, repeats, placement graphics, characters, and conversational patterns.
- Produce detailed flat sketches and technical design packages with correct construction details.
- Ensure all designs align with manufacturing capabilities, cost considerations, and retailer requirements.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work
- Work daily with the Senior Director of Merchandising to develop cohesive seasonal assortments.
- Partner with the internal designer and a team of freelance graphic/print/tech designers to execute design concepts efficiently.
- Participate in fit sessions, construction reviews, and approvals with technical design partners.
- Collaborate with production, sales, and merchandising teams to support line development and key retail presentations.
Retailer-Specific Execution - Design into multiple retailer aesthetics, including but not limited to:
- Target – trend-forward & minimal/contemporary
- Walmart – value-driven & broad market appeal
- TJ Maxx / Burlington – off-price channels requiring rapid adaptation of prints, colorways, and silhouettes
- Ensure all designs meet licensing guidelines, brand standards, and retailer compliance requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–5+ years of experience in children’s apparel design, preferably baby/infant/toddler categories.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and print/pattern creation.
- Ability to design seamless repeats, original prints, and textile layouts.
- Strong flat sketching abilities with solid understanding of garment construction and trims.
- Experience working with factories, tech packs, and production teams.
- Excellent communication, organization skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Knowledge of U.S. retail landscape and children’s market trends.
Salary $70,000-$90,000
