PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided in within a specific program area, such as education, social recreation, arts & crafts, and physical education.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
- Promote and stimulate program participation;
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Ensure that all programs and activities are organized and conducted in a professional manner and are reflective of Boys & Girls Club philosophies
- Provide support to youth and families at all times
- Program Development and Implementation
- Effectively plan, implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors with approval from Unit Director.
- Plan design and implement a STEAM program with goals and objectives for youth K-12.
- Facilitate and support STEAM activities including but limited to robotics, coding, arts, digital media, and enrichment programming.
- Complete Paxton Patterson STEAM module certificate training
- Coordinate external vendors, presenters and instructors for STEAM-related enrichment programming.
- Collaborate with workforce, business, schools, colleges, museums, libraries, public service, community organizations, etc. to expand STEAM opportunities, including field trips and special events with approval from Unit Director.
- Maintain and track STEAM supplies and equipment ensuring organization and availability.
- Promote youth engagement and program participation through flyers, calendars, and social media with approval from Unit Director.
- Support the planning and execution of any STEAM showcase opportunities to show the youth's work and creativity
- Collect track enter and maintain accurate members registration, attendance and participation data in system such as My ClubHub Member Tracking System (MTS).
- Attend required trainings, staff meetings and special events.
- Manage youth behavior and reinforce rules of the club in all recreational areas.
- Model positive behavior and foster an inclusive engaging environment for all youth.
- Ensure program areas are safe, organized, and conducive to learning and creativity.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports
- Plan, coordinate, and implement daily and weekly activities for youth. Be prepared with weekly schedule and each rotation planned in advance using a variety of activities that utilize and teach diverse learning skills
- Aid in the continual development and implementation of new, fun, and educational activities for youth
- Aid in the development, planning, and implementation of on-going quarterly activities, special events, parent night, etc.
- Aid with the coordination and facilitation of BGCA National programs (Youth of the Month, Youth of the Year, S.M.A.R.T. Moves, incentive programs, etc.)
- Establish communication links between members, parents, teachers, school staff, police, community leaders and supervisors
- Assist in other program areas as needed and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Supervision
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings.
- Assist with the implementation and enforcement of safety policies/procedures regarding participant safety, risk management, and building security
- Assist with the up-keep of Club maintenance and appearance
- Handle minor youth conflict as it occurs in programs
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May participate in special programs and/or events
- May be required to drive Club van
- Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
Requirements
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma / GED
- Experience in working with children
- Knowledge of youth development
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
- Ability to deal with the general public
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (can obtain through Club)
- Valid State Drivers License (recommended)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to supervise large groups of children and coordination of their activities. A majority of time will be spent standing. Moderate lifting will be required from time to time.
